Chronic
shoulder tendonitis refers to degenerative tissue in one of the
tendons inserting into the bone at the top of the upper arm bone
(humerus). Sometimes the tendon causes pain and in other cases the
calcification itself is restricting movement in the shoulder. This
is the only condition in which ESWT is used to affect the calcification
and the tendon junction.
Signs
and symptoms that your pain may be shoulder tendonitis:
-
Pain is in the shoulder and radiates down the side of the arm.
- There
is significant pain when lifting items over your head.
-
It is painful to sleep on the injured shoulder.
- There
is also what we refer to as "trigger point" pain. Meaning
the patient will have pain if the doctor presses at the site where
the tendon meets the bone.
- There
can be a weakness of various muscles in shoulder and arm.
- Pain
is almost constant but severe at times.
- Motion
in the shoulder joint can be restricted.
